Masterclass in Contraception
Masterclass in Contraception a Huge Success
The Women's Health Programme ran a very successful Masterclass in Contraception on May 29th in Dublin. This update in contraception was run by Dr Meera Kishen, a consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare in Liverpool Primary Care Trust and Past President of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of the RCOG. Dr Kishen is an expert in primary care led training in contraception and in evidence-based clinical practice.
The afternoon kicked off with an evidence-based quiz and was followed by a talk on new developments in contraception. In the final session, the audience was asked to answer questions on various clinical case scenarios using hand held voting devices. Participants were encouraged to ask questions and challenge Dr Kishen's views throughout the afternoon and this created a stimulating interactive learning experience.
The event was attended by tutors in contraception who wished to update their knowledge. General practitioners who were becoming new tutors in contraception also attended a very interesting morning session on Principals of Adult Learning. This was run by Dr Margaret O'Riordan, National Director of Specialist Training in General Practice and newly appointed Head of Quality and Standards in the ICGP. Tutors in contraception can train and certify candidates for the Certificate in Contraception which is awarded by the ICGP.
Dr Miriam Daly, Director of the Women's Health Programme in the ICGP said "Dr Kishen shared with us her vast experience in clinical practice as well as an enormous amount of evidence based knowledge which made the afternoon both highly enjoyable and very informative. We hope to run similar clinical updates regularly in the future."
