The Irish College of General Practitioners will hold its third national conference on women's health at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Saturday 26th May 2007. The target audience is general practitioners and practice nurses and previous conferences have attracted attendances of over 100 delegates. It is organised by the team who work on the Women's Health Programme at the ICGP.

We aim to increase the health professionals' confidence in their abilities to manage a range of issues that affect the health of women. The programme, therefore, includes common lifestyles issues in addition to gynaecological and sexual health sessions. The schedule also provides a forum for questions and answers and reminds delegates of the range of supports provided by the ICGP Women's Health Programme throughout the year.

Our presenters include international and national experts in obstetrics and gynaecology, sexual health, general practice, neurology and cardiology, as detailed in the accompanying programme. The conference showcases research and innovation within Irish general practices with reports from a number of practices who have developed initiatives to increase access for young people to sexual health services and a number of reports from other community-based research. These projects are supported by the HSE Health Promotion section of Population Health and the Women's Health Programme at the ICGP.

Agencies that provide support and services for women and their healthcare providers will also be in attendance and delegates can visit the academic stands of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency, the National Cancer Screening Service and Action Breast Cancer.

Two publications providing educational support for general practice will be launched at the conference. An impact document on Cardiovascular Disease in Women which has been jointly funded by the Women's Health Council and the Irish College of General Practitioners will by launched by Ms Geraldine Luddy, Director of the Women's Health Council. Ms Caroline Spillane, Director of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency will launch a Key Contacts Document on Care of a Woman after Abortion which was commissioned by the CPA and written by Drs Naoimh Kenny and Ailís ní Riain.
