Applications for Certificate of Specific Training/Acquired Rights in General Medical Practice

Applications for Certificate of Specific Training/Acquired Rights in General Medical Practice must be made directly to the Irish Medical Council, website: www.medicalcouncil.ie, Tel: 01 4983100.

The Medical Council may formally request the ICGP, the recognised specialist body for general practice, to review an applicant's training and experience. The Certification Committee of the ICGP is responsible for reviewing applications. The committee meets on average five occasions per annum.

Note: Only applications received from the Medical Council at least three weeks prior to relevant date of the Certification Committee meeting will be considered. Applications received from the Medical Council after this date will be deferred for consideration until the next meeting of the committee.

Confirmatory Evidence of Training/Experience

Where necessary applicants may be asked for additional information. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide satisfactory independent confirmation of all training/qualifications submitted for consideration.

Administration Fees

No fee is charged in respect of applications from doctors who are members of the ICGP. Applications received from doctors who are not members or associate members of the ICGP will attract a charge of €250. Applications will only be considered on receipt of the appropriate fee.
