MICGP Examination
The timing of the MICGP Examination is to be reviewed for 2011 in the context of trainees gaining access to the Specialist Division of the Register on completion of their general practice training. Trainees are required to hold the CSCT and MICGP Examination in order to obtain entry to the Specialist Register. » read more
Assessment Model for Those in Substantial General Practice
The College is to seek the appointment of a Project Director to explore alternative assessment models for those in substantial general practice but not currently eligible for entry to the specialist division of register. » read more
Registration of Overseas Trainees in Research/Overseas Placements
Proposals have been made to the Medical Council through the Forum for Postgraduate Training Bodies to allow trainees undertaking research/overseas post to be given a temporary number on the trainee division of the register. Currently trainees undertaking research/overseas posts are required to apply for general registration during this period. » read more
Trainee Registration and Overseas Placements
Clarification has been sought from the Medical Council regarding the registration status of trainees on overseas placements, as trainees can only remain on the trainee register if placements are undertaken within the state. » read more
Training Grants
Changes to the current system of funding training grants was one of the main issues arising from Labour Court recommendation regarding the NCHD Contract. The LRC have recommended "Replacement of the current system of paying vouched training grants with arrangement whereby HSE would directly provide appropriate training. » read more
The Future Governance of Medical Education and Training
The Forum of Postgraduate Training Bodies is in discussion with HSE/MET regarding a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the delivery of training. Discussions are ongoing. This would involve the ICGP taking full responsibility for the delivery of training including non pay budgets. This reconfiguration will require considerable discussion before a decision is made. » read more
Interim Registration and Transfer from Trainee Register to General Register
With the introduction of the GP Trainee Register circumstances may arise that whereby the transfer to from Trainee Register to the Specialist Division may not be immediately possible on completion of the 4th year of training. The GP Register may not have completed all modules of the MICGP examination and or have received their CSCT by July. » read more
