Management in Practice for the GP Registrar

Substance Misuse and Associated Health Problems Certificate Course

This course provides in-depth information on recent developments in diagnosis and management of substance misuse problems including alcohol, prescription drugs and illicit substances. Many of the skills acquired on this course (including communication and counselling skills) are applicable across a range of medical problems which may present in a range of clinical settings. Substance misuse related issues are common, presenting in up to 15% of primary care consultations, up to 40% of emergency department consultations and up to 80% of prison admissions. More »

Contraception Tutor Course

Courses will be scheduled based on interest.  If you wish to become a contraception tutor, please contact Jana Pickard at jana.pickard@icgp.ie. This course aims to teach doctors who wish to become a contraception tutor for the purposes of certifying candidates for the Basic Certificate in Contraception. It will also serve as an update in the contraception for current instructing doctors/contraception tutors.  The course will be of particular interest to GP trainers and GPs working in GP training practices. Musculoskeletal problems constitute a substantial ever growing burden on society, on the medical services and all personnel dealing with these conditions. Bone and joint disorders account for more than half of all chronic conditions in people over 50 years and the most common cause of severe, long‐term pain and disability. This intensive two day course covers all aspects of contraception in a small group discussion format with practical stations and simulated patients. It offers an alternative to attending the minimum six practical sessions with a contraception tutor, either in general practice or a family planning clinic to achieve satisfactory experience in this area for the final part of the Reproductive and Sexual Health (RSH) Contraception Certificate.
