Management in Practice - GP Registrar Certificate Course 2011
Course Summary
This course has been designed in response to requests from a number of GP training programmes and current and former registrars who have indicated the need for a more focused approach to practice management in GP training. In addition, practice management is one of the core competencies within the Core Curriculum.

Who is it for?
The course is designed specifically to address the needs of the GP registrar. Places on the course are available to 3rd and 4th year registrars. Preference will be given to 4th year trainees if course is over subscribed.
Aims
To equip the GP Registrar with the basic knowledge of 'business management' principles, skills and competencies needed for successful commencement in professional practice.
Delivery
Teaching methodology will include: workshops, prescribed reading, online discussion, practice based assignments, and presentations/input from experts in relevant disciplines. The course will be supported on the ICGP website. Particular emphasis will be placed on integration and application of knowledge and skills in the training practice. It is hoped that this approach will be of equal benefit to both the registrar and the GP trainer, in addressing practice management issues during the training period.
Time Commitment
- 5 days attendance at workshops in ICGP intervals throughout the period.
- Online discussion board participation/exercises: participation weekly
- In practice assignments: as agreed with GP trainer.
- Reading/home study: 2 hours per week approximately.
The time commitment indicated above is approximate, participants are expected to negotiate and reach agreement with the Programme Director and Trainer regarding protected time for participation e.g. protected time during day release.
Completion of all course components as scheduled is compulsory. The Course provides the opportunity for achieving learning outcomes for Practice Management as outlined in the Core Curriculum for Irish General Practice Training.
