Entry Requirements
This course is open to healthcare professionals working within a primary healthcare setting. This course is run in collaboration with CervicalCheck the Irish National Screening Programme.

What Is The Aim Of The Course?
This course is designed to support and equip primary healthcare professionals to acquire the knowledge necessary to carry out effective cervical smear screening. The theory course is completed over 12 weeks and is delivered through e-learning. The course requires a time commitment of at least six hours per week.
Clinical Skills Component consists of:
- A CervicalCheck appointed Clinical Trainer is assigned to each participant to support the clinical aspects of training in the participant's own clinical setting.
- Best Practice in Smeartaking is modelled by the appointed Clinical Trainer who then supervises the taking of an average of three to four smears at the initial visit.
- The Clinical Trainer provides support during the training period as needed.
- Clinical assessment.
- Submission of an audit of a minimum number of satisfactory training smears for the quality analysis.
- Assessment of client feedback.
