Entry Requirements

This course is open to all registered general practitioners and also to members and fellows of the FSEM.

What is the overall Aim of the course?

This course is jointly run by the ICGP and the Faculty of Sports Medicine,RCPI & RCSI (FSEM) and aims to deepen the doctors understanding of MSK soft tissue dysfunction as it presents in the surgery. It also aims to further prepare the doctor in recognising, assessing and managing these disorders.

Course Content

The course will divided into 12 modules, an introductory module followed by eleven modules focusing on specific regions.

  • Modules 1-3 [Introduction/Glenohumeral Joint/Shoulder Girdle}
  • Modules 4-6 [Cervical Spine/TMJ/Elbow/Forearm/Wrist/Hand Complex]
  • Modules 7-9 [Thoracic vertebrae/Ribcage/Lumbar vertebrae/Sacroiliac joint Hip/Pelvic Girdle]
  • Modules 10-11 [Knee/Lower Limb/Ankle/Foot Complex]

Compulsory Workshops

There will be 4 two-day practical workshops. Each week-end separated by number of modules in set. The main focus of the workshops will be practical education in joint examination. The workshops will also include Small Group Discussion on review of literature of either a diagnostic option or rehabilitation treatment.

Reflective Portfolios of practical sports medicine experience will be required.
