This course is open to all GPs who have an interest in the use of CBT techniques in a GP consultation.

Aim of the Course
This course is ideally suited to GP practice as it is directly focused on providing brief practical interventions which can be used within the constraints encountered within a busy GP surgery. Studies have shown that depression and emotional difficulties account for 93% of the mental health issues seen by GPs in today's surgeries. This course's aim is to provide GPs with effective psychotherapeutic skills appropriate to their clinical practice and experience. The course offers participants an opportunity to practice psychosocial interventions and enhance their own current therapeutic skills in their own clinical practice.
Duration and Format
Course is run over the academic year and consists of 6 workshop days held in Dublin at monthly intervals and participation on a discussion board where participants are encouraged to present case histories for discussion with course tutor and other members of the class. Each class is limited to 15 participants. Completion of the course results in participants been awarded with a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy by the College.
