Entry Requirements

This course is designed for general practitioners, but may also be of interest to doctors in other specialities. Any fully registered doctor may apply, however if the course is oversubscribed, priority is given to general practitioners.

Course Content

The areas covered on the course include:

  • Introduction to palliative care
  • Management of pain
  • Ethics/decision making
  • Bereavement
  • Management of respiratory symptoms
  • Palliative care in non-malignant conditions
  • The terminal phase
  • Miscellaneous symptoms

What is the overall aim of the course?

To provide doctors with the skills necessary to provide best practice palliative care to patients and families in general practice. This is a one year course and is delivered through a combination of workshops and e-learning.

  • 30th September & 1st October 2011 IMI Conference Centre
  • 27th and 28th January 2012: Our Ladies Hospice, Harolds Cross
  • April 2012: ICGP, Lincoln Place
