About NEGs

The ICGP NEGs is particularly interested in representing GPs who are registrars, locums, sessional, part-time, assistants (GMS or private), new principals and those who have recently completed their training in other countries. In return it is anticipated that the College will be enriched and strengthened by the considerable talents and energy that establishing GPs have to offer.

The current structure of the Project is a National Steering Committee with a Project Director. The Steering Committee members organise local regional meetings on topics of interest to establishing GPs. Teleconferences are held to allow Steering Committee members from different parts of the country to discuss topics on a national scale. Several NEGs members also sit on the GP Committee of the IMO and feed back to NEGs members on current developments related to IMO issues.

Summary of Project

To clarify the needs of establishing GPs.
To make recommendations to the College Executive as to how these needs could be catered for by the ICGP and to ensure the implementation of recommendations.
To encourage involvement in and contribution to College activities and address barriers to younger GPs participating in the College.
To update and promote the NEGs section on the ICGP website.
To prepare and publish information for establishing GPs - including a handbook /guide for establishing GP.
To organise annual national conference of establishing GPs.

The NEGs Project is always interested in new members joining the Steering Committee. This makes for more varied opinion and increases representation locally. The commitment is minimal and often enjoyable.
