Ebola Outbreak: Declaration of Public Health Emergency of International Concern by WHO

The ongoing outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) affecting a number of countries in West Africa has now escalated to such an extent that the WHOs International Health Regulations Emergency Committee declared it to be a Public Health emergency of International Concern or PHEIC. The full statement is available here. The countries affected by this outbreak include Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia and most recently Nigeria.

Given that the outbreak is not yet under control, it is entirely likely that many EVD cases remain to be identified in the four affected countries. HPSC has resources on its website to support clinicians in assessing suspected cases of EVD:
