Applications for membership of the ICGP will be considered from general practitioners who meet any of the following equivalent criteria. Qualifications in general practice obtained in the UK (and in other EU member states).
Applications will be considered from doctors who have undertaken general practice training in the UK, who hold a Joint Committee General Practice Training Certificate (JCGPT, UK) but who have not undertaken formal summative/end point assessment and who have been established in practice as of 1 January 1995. See Appendix 2a below for more information.
Applicants must complete the equivalent qualifications application form below, and provide evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council and evidence of six months continuous practice in Ireland.
Applicants may apply for membership of the ICGP once six months experience in general practice in Ireland is completed. See Appendix 2c below for more information.

Completion of training must include a summative/end point assessment and applicants must have completed six months continuous experience in Irish general practice.
Applications will be considered from general practitioners who hold qualifications in general practice considered by the college to be equivalent to the MICGP. For further information on the approval of equivalent training/qualifications see Appendix 2e below.
GPs who apply for ICGP membership through equivalent qualifications will be enabled to access the College's Network of Establishing GP (NEGs) programme, while awaiting the processing of their application. GPs who feel they currently meet the requirements for membership, or who will meet the criteria in the near future, should now make a formal application and submit to the college (without the application fee).
