ICGP Research and Education Foundation Grants
The Research and Education Grants are offered bi-annually in April and October if funds are available. The amount available will depend on the level of funding available. Advertisement will be via FORUM and the ICGP website.
The closing date for the next round of grants is 27 April 2012.

The Research and Education Foundation Review Committee consists of the Honorary Secretary of the College or Chairman, the Chairman of the Education Governance Committee, the Chairman of the Research Committee and a representative from the Research Ethics Committee.
The function of the review-Committee is to recommend to Council, research, education and other projects worthy of Foundation funding within the objects of the Research and Education Deeds of Trust and to ensure that all procedures and criteria are complied with. If approved, the Committee shall assess and monitor the progress of projects until completed.
Grant Offerings
It will be detailed in the advertisement, what grant amounts are available in that call. The maximum likely to be available is:
- April each year: 4 grants to a maximum value of €1,500;
and 1 grant to a maximum of €10,000. - October each year: 6 grants to a maximum value of max of €1,500 with preference for trainees;
and 1 grant to a maximum of €10,000.
- Grants to maximum of €1,500 are for scoping activities, trainee projects and small audits.
- Grants to a maximum of €10,000 are for larger audits, evaluation and research projects.
Applicant Requirements
An application form must be completed (see below):
- All forms must be completed in not less than size 10 font.
- All sections of the form must be completed in full and as requested.
- Do not exceed the page limits set as this will render your application ineligible.
- The outcome of applications will be known three months after the relevant closing date.
Completed application forms should be submitted electronically to michelle.dodd@icgp.ie. Signature pages to be sent by post within one week of closing date; these must be originals - electronic signatures are not acceptable.
Assessment Procedures
The applications are assessed by the R&E Foundation Review Committee. Successful applicants will be notified three months after the application closing date. Applications are assessed in terms of:
- Relevance to general practice/primary care.
- Quality in terms of appropriateness of design to aim/objectives and dissemination plan.
- Feasibility in terms of timeframe and methodology.
- Value for money.
Approval Process and Requirements
A letter of offer including the acceptance form and regulations will be sent to all approved project applicants. The acceptance form must be signed by successful applicants on approval.
