Specialist Division of the Register

Specialist Division of the Register of General Practice (SDR)

Applications for entry onto the Specialist Division of the Register must be made directly to the Irish Medical Council, e-mail: www.medicalcouncil.ie, Tel: 01 4983100. The Medical Council may formally request the ICGP, the recognised specialist body for general practice, to review an applicant's training/experience. The Certification Committee of the ICGP is responsible for reviewing applications. The committee meets on average five occasions per annum.

Only applications received from the Medical Council at least three weeks prior to relevant date of the Certification Committee meeting will be considered. Applications received from the Medical Council after this date will be deferred for consideration until the next meeting of the Committee.

Confirmatory Evidence of Training/Experience

Where necessary applicants may be asked for additional information. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide satisfactory independent confirmation of all training/qualifications submitted for consideration.

Administration Fees

Administration fees for processing Medical Council applications for entry to the Specialist Division of the Register (SDR) and Certificates of Specific Training/Acquired Rights (CSTAR) for non College members or members not in good standing is €250.00.
