Prof Susan Smith, Chair of Research 

Professor Susan Smith works as a GP in Inchicore Family Doctors in Dublin 8 and is Professor of Primary Care Medicine in the Department of General Practice in the RCSI. She qualified from TCD in 1987 and undertook GP training in Ireland and Wales. She then worked in England and Australia, and returned to Ireland in 1998.

Susan has been interested in chronic disease management and health inequalities throughout her career and now leads the Multimorbidity Research Programme in the HRB Centre for Primary Care Research in the RCSI. Other research interests include medicines management and diabetes. She is involved in undergraduate teaching and delivers postgraduate teaching in research methods. She is an active author and editor in the Cochrane Collaboration and is now involved in evidence synthesis for the National Committee on Clinical Effectiveness.

Susan hopes that through her role on the Board and position as Chair of Research that the ICGP can continue to support the generation of evidence to inform clinical practice and policy and most importantly improve outcomes for our patients.
