ICGP HSE General Practitioner Clinical Lead – Prevention

  • Duration: 1-year fixed term initially with extension subject to funding
  • Time Commitment: 2 days per week
  • Reporting to: Medical Director
  • Office location: ICGP, 4-5 Lincoln Place, Dublin 2 with flexibility to travel to relevant meetings with ICGP, HSE and other stakeholders. It is envisaged that the role will initially involve a blend of home working and office work. This will be reviewed in line with COVID-19 public health advice and College policy.

Person Specification


  • Be a medically qualified health professional, holding the MICGP qualification, and be a current member of the College in good standing
  • Be registered with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for General Practice
  • Be in enrolled on and in compliance with Professional Competence Scheme
  • Have 3 years full time or 5 years part time postgraduate medical experience in General Practice
  • Concurrently hold a part time clinical appointment equivalent to a minimum of four sessions of clinical general practice per week

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:

  • Have demonstrated successful and innovative leadership and management of change in health care
  • Ability to recognise and respect expertise in others and the contribution of team dynamics
  • Awareness of the importance of quality improvement and its application to cardiovascular prevention care and the vision for General Practice
  • Ability to design and deliver GP education• Competent negotiator with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and advocate for the patient
  • Ability to interact effectively with government departments and negotiate the case of integrated Primary Care / General Practice
  • Proven ability to evaluate and audit projects
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of common issues re: integrated care and the current challenges that exist.
