The two-day Annual Conference of the Irish College of General Practitioners is the biggest gathering of GPs in the country.

The theme of this year's Conference is "A Healthier Future for General Practice".

Speakers will cover a range of medical topics of interest to family doctors, from the treatment of alcoholism, end-of-life decision making in nursing homes, the rise of "superbugs" and what this means for GPs, anxiety and depression in children and adolescents, asthma in the under 6's, and seminars on women's health.

The College's Foundation Lecture will debate the issue of health inequality, led by Dr Austin O'Carroll, the north inner city GP.

The College's Forum, on the topic "Shaping a Healthier Future for General Practice" will be led by the the chair of the Oireachtas Health Committee, Dr Michael Harty, GP and TD.
