Dr Rita Doyle talks to Dr Mary Short on International Women's Day

Listen to this informative and warm conversation with Dr Rita Doyle and Dr Mary Short, who's the Director of Women's Health with the ICGP. Dr Rita Doyle is a Bray-based GP, and the first woman President of the Irish Medical Council, and the first full time GP appointed President of the Medical Council.

She describes the challenges of being a woman GP, on the extra demands she faced as a woman GP particularly as she had five children at a time when there was no maternity leave for women GPs. She had her first child as she finished her training, and on her second child, she had 3 weeks off, and five days after her final child – because there was nobody else to do it.

Times have improved for women in general practice. Have a listen here.
