Irish College of General Practitioners wins Social Media award for its #BEaGP campaign at the Irish National Healthcare Awards

The professional and training body for General Practice in Ireland, the Irish College of General Practitioners, won first prize in the "Best Use of Social Media" category for its #BEaGP campaign to highlight the advantages of its general practice training programme. The campaign resulted in a doubling in the number of applicants for General Practice training places in 2017.

The campaign was run on a dedicated website www.beagp.com, with a series of video stories around the advantages of general practice training, from both the trainee and trainer point of view, which were run on Facebook and social media.

"We are very pleased with this award, which recognises our innovative use of social media, in particular video stories, to highlight the variety, quality and depth of our General Practice training programmes," said Martina McDonnell, Manager of GP Training with the ICGP.

"We were delighted with the response to the campaign, and we will continue to use it to recruit trainee GPs," she added.

The ICGP's CEO, Fintan Foy, said the College was delighted with the recognition that the award brings. "I would like in particular to thank Patricia Malone, who helped create the campaign, along with our Communications Consultant Aileen O'Meara. Dr Karena Hanley and the GP Training Department were a key part of making the campaign a success. It was a great team effort."
