Q: Is the MICGP qualification recognised abroad?

A. Under EU Directive 2005/36 doctors who hold the MICGP qualification (obtained by the completion of a four year GP training scheme in Ireland, accredited by the ICGP and by passing all modules of the MICGP exam), are eligible to work in the state schemes of other EU countries, including the UK.

Currently, the ICGP holds a reciprocal recognition agreement with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) whereby both Colleges mutually recognised their respective qualifications:

MICGP: ICGP and FRACGP (Fellowship): RACGP. The direct reciprocity applies only in the case of doctors graduating from accredited GP training schemes in Ireland
