Recognition of Prior Learning

For the 2017 GP training intake, the ICGP is opening a Recognition of Prior Learning application process This will allow applicants who have already fully completed a relevant Irish BST programme (or are due to complete by July 2017) the opportunity to apply for consideration for a shortened training pathway (3 years).

For the 2017 intake, the ICGP will recoginise a block(s) of relevant training amounting to one academic year (July-July). This will allow applicants who are eligible to have a full year of training recognised to enter year two of a GP training program, therefore bypassing 1 year of the training process. This year, the ICGP will not be in a position to recognise less than 12 months.

Please note that we can only recognise posts that are relevant and linked to the GP Training Curriculum.

The ICGP will facilitate an adaptation period to compensate for 'day release' content missed by the candidate having bypassed the first training year. Engagement with this adaptation is mandatory for applicants who have had prior learning recognised as part of this process.

In support of your application, as evidence of completed training, you will be asked to provide scanned copies of the following:

  • Logbooks
  • Completion of all associated assessments within the BST structure with a final transcript of results
  • Certificate of Satisfactory Completion
  • Membership of the applicable Post Graduate Training Body

The ICGP reserves the right to revert back to the applicant should further information be required. Failure to upload documents listed above at point of application may impact the assessment of your application.

Please note that the knowing provision of incorrect, inaccurate or deliberately misleading information will result in the immediate rejection of your RPL application without leave to reapply. Selection will be made on information and material provided during this process by the applicant and reference will NOT be made to your original application by the assessors.

RPL application does not automatically confer eligibility for a right to either RPL or a place on a GP Training Programme nor will it have an effect on your scheme preference already submitted.

The application process is available online and will open on 28th March 2017. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 11th April at 5pm. Late or incomplete applications will not be assessed.
