In relation to the agreement reached between the HSE and the ICGP on changes to the transfer of responsibility for GP training, what is changing specifically?

To date, the ICGP as the accredited body for general practice training in Ireland has overseen GP training, by both accrediting the training schemes and issuing the Certificate of Membership (MICGP) which then permits holders to gain access to the specialist register of the Medical Council.

GP Training is currently delivered by the HSE Primary Care Division through a network of 14 training schemes, in the new model of training the delivery of training will transfer from the HSE to the ICGP. The change is that in the future, the ICGP will be responsible for delivering training as well as overseeing the standards of training.
