When am I required to join the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme (PCS)?

As a GP trainee, on the trainee specialist register with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) you are not required to be enrolled on a Professional Competence Scheme. Once you have completed your training and received your CSCST* certificate from the ICGP, you are required to enrol on a PCS within 30 days.

N.B: We advise that you only complete your PCS enrolment after completion of training training. How do I enrol on the ICGP PCS?You can enrol by following the steps below:

  1.  Log into www.icgp.ie/pcs
  2.  Select 'Renew/Enrol on the ICGP PCS'
  3.  Confirm your Medical Council registration details
  4.  Pay your enrolment fee with credit or debit card
  5.  Once you have done so, you will be emailed a link to your ePortfolio and you can start to record your CPD activity.

Assistance with recording your activity is available on www.icgp.ie/pcs_faqs

Where you have been on the Training Division of the register for part of a PCS year, your CPD requirements will reflect this. As such, you should only record CPD activity engaged in after completion of training to your PCS ePortfolio.

Renewing IMC registration at the end of training. If you have not received your CSCST certificate from the ICGP prior to renewing your registration with the Medical Council, you should select option 3 in Section 2 of the IMC renewal registration form ('I am or will shortly be registered in the Trainee Specialist Division').

*Please note: nomination of CSCST from your training scheme will not be accepted by the IMC as confirmation of CSCST.
