Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) continue to increase in popularity as a contraceptive choice for women.General practitioners are the primary health care providers of this form of contraception in the Irish setting. In response to feedback from general practitioners providing this service, the ICGP Women's Health Programme intends to facilitate a series of updated LARC workshops around the country over the forthcoming year.

Many GP trainees receive training in LARC insertions during their registrar years but receive no formal recognition of that training. The ICGP has developed a programme for LARC certification and awards the Advanced Certificate in LARC to those GP trainees who receive training in LARC techniques from a recognised ICGP LARC tutor. GP trainers and GPs working in training practices and family planning clinics can become a recognised ICGP LARC tutor by attending an ICGP LARC tutor course.
