This course builds on the learning from the Foundation Course and aims to provide participants with in-depth information on recent developments in diagnosis and management of addiction problems including alcohol, prescription drugs and illicit substances and the theoretical framework to assess, manage and refer appropriately patients who misuse substances.

Many of the skills acquired on this course (including communication and counselling skills) are applicable across a range of medical problems which may present in a range of clinical settings.
All GPs who have completed the ICGP Addiction Management in Primary Care Foundation Course are eligible to register for this course.
This course is also the education component for becoming a recognised Level 2 OST Prescriber with the HSE.
The course will commence on Friday, 11 November 2022 and run until Friday, 6 January 2023. Participants are expected to attend 2 online live workshops (dates below), complete 7 online learning modules and submit a Practice Improvement Project, demonstrating their learning during the course.
