The Women's Health Programme was established in 1998 on the recommendation of the Task Force for Women's Health under the chairmanship of Dr Mary Condren. The Programme has evolved since its inception to cover a wide range of topic areas, a variety of educational formats and a series of publications with a multi-disciplinary approach. The educational aim of the Women's Health Programme is to provide high quality educational opportunities in topics in women's health for GPs, practice nurses and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner that are accessible, applicable, responsive and relevant to day-to-day workload.

Courses are supported by the fees paid by participants. The programme has also received support from the HSE Sexual Health and Crisis Pregnancy Programme, and Cervicalcheck, and educational grants from pharmaceutical companies.
