Q. What is the story with acquisitions of GP practice software companies?

A. In October 2014 an American company, Eli Global, acquired both Helix Health and Socrates. Eli Global is based in Durham, North Carolina and describes itself as: "We are a globally diversified information and services group that provides a broad range of products and services including: certification, training, market research, advertising, information services and cash flow management". The chairman and owner of Eli Global is Greg Lindberg. The group employs 1,500 people worldwide.

A new Irish holding company called Clanwilliam Investments Ltd has been created to manage the investment. Howard Beggs is group CEO and Dermot Dolan and Colin O'Connor are members of the executive management team. Three Irish GP practice software systems are now under the management of Clanwilliam Investments: Health One, Helix Practice Manager and Socrates. Together they hold over 90% of the GP practice software market in Ireland. The fourth accredited GP practice software system, Complete GP, was not involved in the acquisitions. Useful links:
