Q. My main problem with the practice software system is that I can't type and it takes me ages to enter a consultation note. Any advice?

A. Typing with one or two fingers can really slow you down. It often means that entries are less complete than they should be, which could lead to both communication and medico-legal related problems down the line. However, 10 minutes of daily practice with a typing programme for two weeks will get you up to speed, stop you looking at the keyboard and improve your accuracy. There are free online tutors at www.sense-lang.org/typing/ and www.powertyping.com or you can purchase an application such as 'Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing' from your local or online computer store. Best to do your practising on your home computer. Always avoid installing non-critical software on your practice computers, and make sure you have a recent and working backup before you install.
