Non-EU Rural GP Programme

The ICGP Non-EU Rural GP Programme aims to identify, support and integrate a cohort of non-EU GPs into the rural Irish GP workforce.

The role of the Non-EU Rural GP Programme is to:

  • identify and recruit suitable non-EU GPs, in accordance with the programme criteria, for rural GP practices
  • facilitate supported and supervised practice
  • assist the Non-EU GP to undertake the ICGP (MICGP) exam, leading to Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council
  • encourage the retention of the Non-EU Rural GP in Irish general practice

Non-EU GPs

Acceptance to the ICGP Non-EU Rural GP Programme is dependent on:

  1. Meeting the eligibility criteria (PDF, 90KB)
  2. An interview process, should you meet the eligibility criteria
  3. Follow up with your referees
  4. Placement in a participating rural GP practice

Candidate GPs must meet the eligibility criteria to submit a non-EU candidate GP application.

Irish GP Practices

The programme is designed to support rural GP practices and is open to all rural practices that meet the eligibility criteria (PDF, 138KB).
