This study hopes to find out GPs opinions of the current notification process and the current list of infectious diseases. By looking at perceived barriers to notification and ways to improve notification, it may help improve notification by GPs.
Aim:
1. To discover General Practitioner's opinions of the notification process for infectious diseases.
2. To discover which diseases General Practitioners feel should remain on a list of notifiable diseases for General Practitioners.
Objectives:
This study will focus on four main areas:
1. GPs knowledge of and attitudes towards the reporting system.
2. GPs opinion on the list of infectious disease.
3. Barriers to notification of infectious diseases.
4. Whether any changes could be made to increase the level of notification.
Methodology:
This will be a postal survey. The questionnaire will focus on the four areas above and include some additional demographic information. The study population will be 310 GPs selected at random from the current list of GPs in the Irish Medical Directory, issue 2006/2007, total number of GPs listed is 2270. This sample will involve a cross section of GPs from the country.
