Pregabalin and Gabapentin Medicinal Products designated interchangeable

In line with its remit under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) will include pregabalin and gabapentin-containing medicinal products on the List of Interchangeable Medicines. As you are aware, these medicines are indicated for the treatment of epilepsy, and the clinical exemption to substitution (Article 13 of Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods), Act 2013) may be relevant for certain epilepsy patients. 

The updated List of Interchangeable Medicines has been published on the HPRA website. The next stage in the process is the setting of the reference price by the HSE.
