About MICGP-AR

The MICGP-AR is a performance based assessment route to attain membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners (the MICGP qualification) for doctors who are currently working in Irish general practice who have not completed accredited training in general practice and who meet the MICGP-AR eligibility requirements.

Candidates who pass all the assessments of the MICGP-AR will be eligible for election to membership of the ICGP – the postgraduate professional body for Irish general practice.

Application Periods

The application periods will be as follows:

  • 1 October 2018 – 31 January 2019
  • 1 October 2019 – 31 January 2020

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OUTSIDE OF THESE APPLICATION WINDOWS.

The MICGP-AR application process will terminate on 31 January 2020 and no further applications will be accepted thereafter.

 

Application Fees

The full fee for the MICGP-AR is €7,000.

The breakdown of the full payment for MICGP-AR is as follows:

Application fee €700
Practice Portfolio Module (assessment module fee) €2,100
Oral-AR Assessment Module (assessment module fee) €2,100
SBA-AR Module (assessment module fee) €2,100

 

In order to apply for the MICGP-AR, applicants must make a non-refundable payment of €700.

Applications are not accepted without payment of this application fee. It is essential that applicants read all documentation and regulations AND have the necessary documentation as requested BEFORE submitting this application. 

Note: There is NO refund of the application fee where the application is not accepted.

Note: In the case of candidates repeating an assessment module the fees are as detailed above.

 

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements as stated below must be fulfilled in full by the application closing date. This is defined as the date on which the application process closes each year. Candidates who apply for MICGP-AR must fulfil all of the criteria for the application by:

  • 31 January 2019 (if applying for assessment in 2019)
  • 31 January 2020 (if applying for assessment in 2020)

Candidates are required to declare any pending or upheld Medical Council complaints, findings and/or undertakings against them (current or historic) at the time of application for MICGP-AR. Failure to disclose will result in the removal of the candidate from the programme.

Subsequently, if a candidate becomes subject to Medical Council complaint, enquiry, hearing or censure at any time during the course of their MICGP-AR assessment, the candidate MUST inform the MICGP-AR office of the ICGP.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT MICGP-AR IS A ROUTE TO MEMBERSHIP OF THE IRISH COLLEGE OF GENERAL PRACTICIONERS AND SPECIALIST REGISTRATION UNDER THE DISCIPLINE OF GENERAL PRACTICE WITH THE IRISH MEDICAL COUNCIL.

MICGP-AR IS NOT A VOCATIONAL TRAINING PATHWAY AND HOLDERS OF MICGP-AR CANNOT RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING:    

  • ICGP TRAINING CSCST (CERTIFICATE OF SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF TRAINING)
     
  • IRISH MEDICAL COUNCIL ISSUED CERTIFICATE OF SPECIALIST DOCTOR (CSD) 
     
  • CERTIFICATE OF SPECIFIC TRAINING OR ACQUIRED RIGHTS (CSTAR)
