How do I answer the question about CPD requirements on the Medical Council annual retention of registration form?

On the Medical Council retention of registration form, you will be asked to confirm that you are maintaining your professional competence pursuant to CPD requirements. You should answer this question based on the activity you have recorded for the 2018/19 PCS year.

You should answer YES where the following applies:

  • You have recorded your annual requirements of 50 CPD credits and 1 clinical/practice audit for the 2018/19 PCS year, including the minimum requirements in each of the credit categories
  • You have recorded the requirements for the part of the 2018/19 PCS year for which you were registered on the General and/or Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council

You should answer NO in the following circumstances:

  • You have not recorded your annual requirements of 50 CPD credits and 1 clinical/practice audit for the 2018/19 year, including the minimum requirements in each of the credit categories
  • You have not met your requirements and have notified the ICGP of sick/maternity leave in excess of 3 months during the 2018/19 PCS year. Where you have notified the ICGP, a note will have been included on your annual Statement of Participation
  • You have not recorded the requirements for the part of the 2018/19 PCS year for which you were on the General and/or Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council

NB: Please be aware that a false declaration on your retention of registration form could leave you open to a complaint by the Medical Council.
