Guidance from Medical Council regarding PCS and COVID-19

As we approach the end of the 2019 2020 PCS year, under unusual and difficult circumstances, the Medical Council has asked us to make you aware of the following updated PCS information, also available on their website:

PCS Enrolment

  • The Medical Council advises that all doctors maintain their PCS enrolment. ICGP enrolment for the 2020 2021 PCS year will open on the 01 of May 2020 and is accessible via

PCS Compliance

  • This year, in light of COVID-19, the Medical Council has confirmed that they will not be monitoring CPD compliance. This means that you will not be required to make a declaration regarding professional competence when you are completing 2020 registration with the Council.
  • No audit or verification process will be undertaken on CPD records for the 2019 2020 PCS year.
  • You will not need to make up shortfalls in CPD activity from the 2019 2020 PCS year

ICGP will include a note on Statements of Participation (available in May 2020) to underline the extenuating circumstances for the 2019 2020 PCS year.

In the meantime, ICGP is providing a range of educational activity to assist GPs in keeping up to date with information on Covid-19 via the ICGP COVID-19 Clinical Hub

Guidance on how to record this activity for CPD is available here.

This information was communicated to all PCS enrolees via email on 20 April 2020.
