Important information regarding recording activity

The Irish Medical Council's (IMC) Registration and Continuing Practice Committee have instructed the post graduate medical training bodies to contact individuals who have failed to record any maintenance of professional competence activity for 3 consecutive years. They have indicated that they will be asking training bodies to report individuals who persistently fail to record zero activity for three consecutive years, by name.

The IMC have advised that the communication individuals receive from the training body provides an opportunity for the doctor to remedy the situation. The IMC have advised that failure to correct the recording of maintenance of professional competence activity will result in the training body being obliged to forward the doctor's information to the IMC and that potential consequences may arise with the doctor's continuing registration.

The role of the ICGP in operating a professional competence scheme is to facilitate GPs with their maintenance of professional competence. There are a range of tools on the ICGP website to assist you in both recording and obtaining continuing professional development credits.

If you need assistance, please refer to the Help/Resources section on the PCS section of the ICGP website. You can also contact us directly by emailing or by calling ICGP reception on 01 676 3705. We are happy to arrange a tutorial at the college for anyone who would like further assistance.
