GP Training Induction 2019 – Welcome to General Practice Training

The ICGP hosted its second induction session for doctors commencing training on Friday 5th July, in the Red Cow Moran Hotel, with approx. 130 incoming trainees in attendance.

The session commenced at 12pm with a very warm welcome from Dr. Mary Favier, ICGP President, Mr. Fintan Foy, ICGP CEO and Dr. Ciara Lambe, GP Trainee Network Rep. Dr. Karena Hanley was unable to attend in person but a pre-recorded a welcome video was played to all in attendance.

Dr. Andree Rochfort, Director of Quality Improvement & Doctors Health in Practice Programme addressed the incoming trainees, followed by an interactive session led by Mr. Nick Fenlon on Keeping the Curriculum Alive. Trainees were guided on best practice use of the curriculum and were encouraged to provide feedback on its content, throughout their training.

Co-sponsors of the event Medisec and MPS provided advice and guidance on the type of additional cover suitable for gp trainees.

Following lunch, trainee reps Dr. Fareeda Borhan and Dr. Sarah Barry presented to the group. Trainees are encouraged to become involved with the Network of Trainees and can contact members on networkofgptrainees@gmail.com.

Dr. Lucia Gannon, GP & APD on the South East scheme gave an informative and light hearted talk what to expect from the next four years of training. This was followed by Ms. Gillian, ICGP Librarian, providing advice to trainees on the resources available through https://www.icgp.ie/go/library/library_home/. The session closed with words from Dr. Rukshan Goonewardena, GP & Network of Establishing GP's Director.
