Q. We have a practice with five computers on the network where one of the computers acts as the server. Our practice software system is getting slow to respond. Should we upgrade to a separate designated server?

A. The answer is yes. Upgrading to a designated server will speed up your system and is worthwhile. Talk to your practice software vendor when you are planning the upgrade to ensure you choose the appropriate server and operating system. Take the opportunity to check that your security is in order and your data backup systems are working.
