Measles in Ski Resort Val Thorens, SE France

French authorities are reporting a large measles outbreak in the ski resort of Val Thorens in Savoie during the last few weeks

During the ski season, more than 300,000 holiday-makers, 2,500 seasonal workers; 22,000 tourists with 70% of foreigners frequent the area of "Trois Vallées" (Val Thorens, Courchevel, Meribel and Les Ménuires). In addition, in France, on 9th of February begin the winter –holidays.

Information on public health measures planned or undertaken

Accordingly to the French guidelines, health measures were implemented by the Regional Health Authority: contact tracing, screening and treatment. Vaccine catch-up started in susceptible population.

Risk Communication

Regional health authority informed childhood professionals, healthcare workers and school professionals. They also informed City authority, hotel professionals, and ski professionals. They published a press release for advertising population on the 8th of February. Further information
