ICGP Research and Audit Award Winners

The ICGP Research Department is delighted to announce the winners of the 2021 Research and Audit Awards.

Best Published Paper Award

The ICGP Best Published Paper award acknowledges general practice researchers who have disseminated their research findings by publication in a peer-reviewed journal. This award is sponsored by the ICGP Research Department.
Winners: Dr. Robert Gee, Patricia Horgan, Mike Thompson & Ken Harte, 'Termination of pregnancy services in Irish general practice from January 2019 to June 2019'

Dr Jim Slein Research Bursary in Substance Misuse or Health Inequalities/Inequity

The Dr Jim Slein Bursary acknowledges general practice researchers who have undertaken a research project investigating substance misuse or health inequality/inequity. This grant is kindly supported by Dr Jim Slein's family.
Winner: Dr Patrick O'Donnell, 'Developing a tool for the measurement of social exclusion in healthcare settings.'

Dr John Carroll Rural Doctor Research Bursary

This grant is specifically offered for general practice research focused on a topic related to practicing as a rural GP or in a rural area carried out by a GP or GP Trainee. This grant has been kindly donated by Dr John Carroll's family.
Winners: Dr. Sarah McErlean and Dr. Rachel Murphy, 'Home visits in rural general practice: what does the future hold?'.

Maria Kidney Cancer Research Bursary

This Maria Kidney Cancer Research Bursary acknowledges general practice researchers who have undertaken a cancer related research project in the past two years. This grant is kindly supported by Dr. Ger Kidney in memory of his wife Maria.
Winner: Dr. Stephanie Creed, 'A qualitative study of parental views of HPV vaccination in Ireland'.
