Information Skills for GPs: The 5 Steps to Success

The ICGP Library is pleased to announce the launch of a new eLearning ICGP module 'Information Skills for GPs: The 5 Steps to Success' is now available.

The purpose of this module is to empower GPs to find, use and locate evidence-based information.

The module consists of a series of 10 short videos and 8 handouts/PDFs split into the following sections:

· Step 1: Getting the most out of the ICGP Library

· Step 2: Finding What you need from ICGP Online Journals

· Step 3: Searching using PubMed

· Step 4: An introduction to Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM)

· Step 5: Referencing & Locating Sources

The module was developed in collaboration with a pilot group of representative end-user GPs and the Library would like to thank them for their feedback and suggestions – Dr. Scott Walkin (GP/CME Tutor); Dr. Mark Murphy (GP/Clinical Lecturer in General Practice in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)); Dr. Sarah Maguire (GP/Assistant Programme Director at Donegal Specialist Training Scheme in General Practice); Dr. Domhnall Heron (GP Trainee); Dr. Karena Hanley (GP/ICGP Director of Innovation in GP Training/Head of GP Training Innovation & Development); Dr. Sarah Taaffe (GP/ICGP Clinical Lead on Paediatrics) & Dr. Claire Collins (ICGP Director of Research).

It is hoped that the module will be of assistance to all ICGP members, CME tutors, GP trainers/trainees as well as those engaging in e-learning activities and research. It is free to ICGP members and qualifies for three professional competence credits once the MCQ test is completed. Access is via the ICGP Education site and the module can be completed in sessions.
