Chronic disease programmes

09 April 2018

Q. I have signed up to the HSE chronic disease programmes for asthma and diabetes. Do I need written consent to return data?

A. Any clinical data that is being returned to the HSE is pseudonymised and should not be identifiable to the patient. Therefore, written consent should not be required. It is however, reasonable to inform the patient that their data will be collected and used in this way. Patients should give informed consent before they are placed on disease registers and commenced on chronic disease programmes.
