Do all doctors need to meet the PCS requirement annually?

NB: Requirements for the 2023 2024 PCS year are 40 CPD credits and 1 clinical / practice audit.

Yes. The annual PCS requirements apply to all doctors, regardless of working status. If you do have shortfalls in a particular PCS year, you are required to make these up the following year.

The annual PCS requirements are:

• 1 clinical/practice audit

50 CPD credits to include:

• 20 internal CPD credits
• 20 external CPD credits
• 5 personal learning CPD credits
• 5 additional credits in any of the above or in research and teaching

If you join the Medical Council register partway through the year, your requirements will be based on the part of the year in which you are registered. For information on this, please contact professionalcompetence@icgp.ie
