The College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Rukshan Goonewardena as Director of the ICGP Network of Establishing GPs (NEGs) Programme.
Dr Goonewardena takes up this appointment with effect from 1st May having been in an acting role previously.
The objective of the ICGP NEGs Programme is to provide support and advice to establishing College members and foster active involvement in College.
The role of the NEGs Director is to promote collaboration and integration of newly establishing GP and to act as a representative on their behalf.
Rukshan, is a 2016 MICGP graduate and was actively involved in the College during his Trainee years. Rukshan plans to closely link NEGs with local faculties to enable long term succession of Faculty Officers with younger GPs. Having a strong NEGs network can help with local retention issues and allow for greater collaboration between establishing and established GPs.
Rukshan is in practice in Ballyjamesduff and is also the Secretary of the ICGP Cavan/Monaghan Faculty.
