Pathways to Being Well - Mental Health Guide for Ethnic Minorities in Ireland now available in 8 languages

Cairde has published Pathways to Being Well - Mental Health Guide for Ethnic Minorities in Ireland. It is hoped that this guide could be a useful tool for health and mental health practitioners as well as for information providers engaging with ethnic minorities.

The resource provides information on how to look after yourself in Ireland and highlights the services available if you need support. It is available in 8 languages in electronic and printed formats.

It was developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders including communities, mainstream services and a state agency to ensure its content and visual presentation meet the needs of the target communities. The report Ethnic Minorities and Mental Health in Ireland: Barriers and Recommendations highlights that poor mental health awareness and limited information on how to seek help from both mainstream and grassroots supports remain key barriers for ethnic minorities in Ireland to access services. In addition, mainstream health promotion and information initiatives often do not reach ethnic minorities, particularly from disadvantaged communities.

Languages: ENG ARAB CH FR LITH PL ROM RUS – available for download. To order hard copies, please contact mentalhealth@cairde.ie.

It is hoped that the guide will be officially launched next year. The guide has been developed as part of Cairde's Be Aware. Be Well. Migrant Mental Health Initiative and was funded by the HSE Lottery Grant.
