Breast Implants and a risk of Lymphoma - Primary Care Advisory

23 September 2019
print version

Updated 09 October 2019

The HSE and the National Cancer Control Program (NCCP) requested the College to disseminate information to members regarding Breast Implants and the risk of Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

The attached communication from Dr Vida Hamilton, National Clinical Advice Group Lead for Acute Operations, together with the supporting information from the Health Products Regulatory Authority provides the detail on the issues concerned.

Both HSE and NCCP have undertaken to directly inform patients with implants of this condition. This is the agreed pathway. The attached information will however be informative for you in responding to your patients queries should you be contacted.
