Information for Non-EU GPs

This programme enables experienced International Medical Graduate (IMG) GPs to work in routine, daytime Irish general practice for two years, with some GP out-of-hours work. This programme is not a GP training programme. This is a self directed learning programme with mentorship and support. The ICGP will provide substantial ongoing education supports to the IMG GP candidate and the 'host' GP practice will provide a clinical mentor.

Programme Information

Please ensure that you have read each of the following page before progressing with your application:

Requirements

Acceptance to the IMG Rural GP Programme is dependent on:

1. Review of your application and meeting the eligibility criteria, which must include:

  • three years of general practice experience in a GP setting (obtained in Ireland or elsewhere in the world)
  • post graduate experience must include paediatrics and general medicine

2. Call to interview if you meet the eligibility criteria.

3. Satisfactory clinical references if you are successful at interview.

4. Placement in a participating rural GP practice. You will be employed by the practice in which you are placed.

The final decision on the placement of an IMG GP in a GP practice is made by the programme.
