Statement regarding the conflict in Gaza, Israel and surrounding region

The violence in the Gaza Strip, Israel and the surrounding region has led to a serious humanitarian crisis, with thousands of deaths and injuries, displaced communities and widespread damage to infrastructure.

Many civilians and those working in healthcare, including doctors and medical professionals, have been killed in the conflict since it began in October.

The Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) expresses deep concern at this huge loss of life and urges all sides in this conflict to respect international law. The ICGP calls for the protection of healthcare facilities and personnel to ensure they can safely carry out their work in this time of crisis.

The Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) abhors violence in all forms. We urge both sides to seek a peaceful solution, to end the violence in the region, and support the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected population.
