Licentiate of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (LFOM)

Improve knowledge base and skills in occupational medicine

This two-year course is run jointly by the ICGP and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI). The course provides GPs with an overview of the range of topics relevant to occupational medicine and helps in preparation for the LFOM examination run by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, RCPI.

Participants will receive guidance on accepted standards of provision of occupational health services including legislation, ethics and communication, an overview of the identification, prevention and management of occupational hazards, injuries and illnesses and advice on how to access further information in occupational medicine.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is open to all registered general practitioners who meet the following criteria:

• Candidates must hold a medical qualification acceptable to the ICGP and Faculty of Occupational Medicine, RCPI.
• Candidates must be registered and authorised to practice medicine by their appropriate national body
• GP Specialist Registrars may apply once they have written permission from their GP Training Scheme Director and they are training in a general practice which provides an occupational medicine service i.e., they will have access to occupational medicine cases.

Course Duration

The course will commence in September 2023 and run until June 2024. Reading and other eLearning content will be available online as per the course timetable. A time commitment of approximately six hours per week will be needed during the course term (September – June). Participants are expected to attend two live workshops during the course on the following dates.

• Workshop 1: Friday, 22 September 2023 at 9am – 11am
• Workshop 2: Friday, 19 January 2024 at 9am – 11am
