Press release about GP arrangements during ex-Hurricane Ophelia

The ICGP has issued advice to the public requiring GP services, and to members providing services during ex-Hurricane Ophelia today.

Advice to the public

The Irish College of General Practitioners, the professional and training body for Irish General Practitioners, has ask the public not to contact their GP today (Monday 16th October) unless absolutely necessary.

Many GP practices will have limited opening hours today. People are asked not to attempt to attend or contact their local GP unless they believe they have a medical emergency. Practices and GP out-of-hours co-ops will be responding locally, guided by the advice issued by Met Eireann and the HSE. Please contact your GP or out-of-hours co-op if you need to make an appointment.

General Practitioners are mindful of their particularly vulnerable patients, and will determine how best to respond to individual calls for assistance.

Message to members

In keeping with the position adopted by the HSE, the ICGP advises its GP members that people should be advised to not attempt to attend or contact their GP today, unless they believe they have a medical emergency.

Practices and GP Co Operatives will be responding locally, guided closely by directions issued by the HSE and Met Eireann.
